Door Security

It is important to have a good quality door particularly an external one.

It is recommended that all external doors should be at least 44 mm thick. The doorframe should be sturdy and an inter-locking steel strip should be fitted to the frame and door. It is also a good idea to have a spy hole fitted. This will enable you to view who is at the door before deciding whether to open it.

An important step towards home security is the fitting of security locks on both doors and windows. Once fitted it is important to remember to use the locks. A high percentage of burglaries are made through an open or unlocked door or window.

The section on locks gives more advice on the fitting of suitable locks.
