It only takes a minute for a thief to take your cheque book, cash or credit cards. You need to be vigilant at all times. Leaving your handbag or briefcase unattended just for a moment, or your jacket on the back of a chair is the opportunity that the thief needs.
Take precautions
Do
- Keep your cheque book and cheque card separate.
- Make sure that the cheque card is signed in ball point ink
- Try and only carry one credit card with you at any one time
- If you are not using your card for some time still regularly check that you have them in your possession. If you cannot find them after, not using them for some time they may have been lost or stolen without you realising and a thief could have been using them.
Be vigilant when extracting cash from a cash machine. Stand squarely in front of the machine to prevent anyone from identifying the pin number you are inputting. Only carry the amount of cash you need.
